Publishing with The Novel Fox SHORTS

The Novel Fox SHORTS is seeking new, highly entertaining works of short fiction to publish either on a stand-alone or anthology basis. The Novel Fox SHORTS is currently considering short fiction targeted at young adults through adults in the following genres: fantasy, military/espionage, and science fiction.

For never before published novellas, The Novel Fox pays advances starting at $250. Royalties for novellas published under The Novel Fox SHORTS are paid semi-annually one month in arrears, and are generally 30% of The Novel Fox’s gross receipts for digital book sales and 20% of gross receipts for physical book sales. The Novel Fox considers novellas between 20,000 and 35,000 words.

For never before published short stories, The Novel Fox pays 7¢ per word up to a maximum of $500. The Novel Fox does not pay royalties for short stories. The Novel Fox considers short stories between 1,000 and 10,000 words.

The Novel Fox SHORTS considers works falling between 10,000 and 20,000 words in length, however the publication terms for such works are negotiated on a case by case basis.

For all short fiction, The Novel Fox requires an exclusive license, the scope and terms of which will vary.

Submitting to The Novel Fox SHORTS

The Novel Fox SHORTS only accepts submissions by electronic mail, directed to submissions@thenovelfox.com. The Novel Fox SHORTS will only consider submissions for which the author has a completed work. We do not consider works in progress or accept hard copy submissions.

For submissions to The Novel Fox SHORTS, the subject of the email should include “SHORTS SUBMISSION:” followed by the story’s working title. The body of the email should provide a brief introduction, the author’s name and contact information, a one to two sentence synopsis of the story, the genre, the word count, and any questions for The Novel Fox. For all works of short fiction, the email should include the full manuscript as either a PDF or word document attachment. For submissions over 10,000 words in length, the email should also include a PDF or word document attachment providing a walkthrough of the plot that is no longer than 3 pages in length and specifically describes the events of the story. Such attachments should be double-spaced using Times New Roman, size 12 font.

In the event The Novel Fox would like to further pursue the submission, the author will be contacted. Due to the volume of short fiction submissions received, The Novel Fox only contacts accepted submissions, typically within six to eight weeks from the submission date.
